Betting: A Personal Opinion

Betting: A Personal Opinion

I’m in love with the game of basketball. The NBA is probably the closest thing I have to religion. And every religion demands some money put into it, and my way of contributing is by betting on the sport. Of course that makes me a bad follower, because I usually win.

I’m the most nervous, pig-headed sports fan there is, there are no better five players than the starting line of my favorite team and I stick by them through everything that happens. But when it comes to putting my money in it, I’m cold and I take calculated, well thought risks. And that’s what brings me money. Maybe it’s the years I spent playing basketball in high school and college and the few times I coached basketball in high school also that brings me an edge. But I like to believe that it’s because I do my homework before betting.

And that’s the biggest advice I can give to anyone willing to bet on basketball. Put your feeling aside and put the money where your mind tells you to. I’d feel bad betting against my own team, even if intellectual analysis tells me that they’ll likely lose, so I don’t. I make a habit of betting on teams not directly related to my team’s campaign. Emotional distance is what grants me the ability to make money. My second advice would be to listen to the experts. Read pundits’ opinions and thoughts and take your own conclusions and ideas from it.
